For the benefit of any "local experts" incorrectly advising people to ask if the Uni System tanks conforms in France.

Yes it now does.

Because of our action against France through the European Commission, with the considerable assistance of Solvit, the French Ministrie de l'Energie du Developpement, on the 9th October 2009, released a new Decree (DEVO0809422A).

Our Uni 6 System Micro station d'Epuration was used as the template for the action taken by Solvit to force the important change on our tank which already has its EN12566-3 certificate issued in another member state.

France has now had to accept our Uni System for 6, 10 or 12 persons which because of having all its necessary certificates noted above including Irish and UK CE, can be fast tracked through any French application.(Numero d'Agrement en cours).

Micro station d'épuration systems for holiday homes are not suitable if you turn off all the electricity. However if the system has a continuous feed while not in residence, the system just keeps recycling ”polishing the final effluent" to an even final effluent quality.

These units have outputs that are clean enough to feed directly into road drains, ditches and even rivers or lakes!

In the event of any flooding, backflow prevention valves are also available.

The only time you should require a small filter (perculation) bed is if you do not have access to any of the above or if your property has long spells where it is not in use.

The plants have been designed in accordance with British Water Code of Practice, and will treat effluent to a minimum 20:30:20 standard as detailed in the Royal Commission Standard. A standard of 20mg/litre BOD, 30m/litre Suspended Solids and 20mg/litre Ammonia should be acceptable to be discharged directly into a watercourse. the plants are designed through its unique activated sludge return process to treat occasional temporary shock loading of up to a further 20% i.e. a weekend for Bank Holidays, so long as directly afterwards the plant has time to recover and settle back to its design criteria.

The plants are covered by the following guarantees:

Internal & External Structure- 25 years

Compressor Blower-2 years

Ceramic Diffuser-5 years

Jung Pump-2 years (for pumped outlets only)

All plants now have compressor alarms fitted as standard, these will becoming mandatory in 2010.

An optional extra is a Back Flow Prevention Valve (details right), this may be advisable to fit if you live in low lying areas, and where your sewage treatment plant is discharging directly to a watercourse or river.

The valve will protect the plant from the risk of water damage and vermin from the river or watercourse when it is in a flood condition. These valves are not required if you are installing a land drainage system for discharge unless your situated in a very high water table area.

Over the past 8 or 9 years the European Union has been developing a new standard. Here is a general overview of this new European Standard.

EN 12566 currently consists of 7 parts. Some parts are still in preparation whilst others are now considered as finished and published for adoption as National Standards.  Part 3 below is now a British Standard and designated as BS EN 12566-3:2005.

The list of EN 12566 parts are:

Part 1: Pre-fabricated septic tanks;

Part 2: Soil infiltration systems;

Part 3: Packaged and/or site assembled domestic wastewater treatment plants;

Part 4: Septic tanks assembled in situ from prefabricated kits. (in preparation);

Part 5: Pre-treated effluent filtration systems;

Part 6: Prefabricated treatment unit used for septic tank effluent (in preparation);

Part 7: Prefabricated tertiary treatment unit (in preparation);

Part 2 and Part 5 are to be considered as Codes of Practice and do not specify treatment requirements.  Those parts in preparation are pre-fixed by "pr". i.e part 6 is currently referred to as prEN 12566-6.  The date that it is published in the European Journal is indicated by the date at the end.  Thus Part 3 is now referred to as BS EN 12566-3:2005 The announcement was made in EU Directive 89/106/EEC for construction products. It came into full effect across Europe in July 2008 when it replaced all national standards with a single harmonised standard.

On the 9th October the new decree, DEVO0809422A became law in France. The Uni system which has already been awarded the EN12566-3 certificate can be fast tracked through an application for installation.
